By 2025, our landfill will be full. In the meantime, 40% of our garbage is organics, and the one private service that offers curb-side recycling in Roberts Creek is ending its service in December. The landowner of the Gibsons Recycling Depot is planning to develop the land. But wait, there is hope! The board has already voted to implement curb-side recycling, we just don't know what it's going to look like. I know! Look no further than how Gibsons handled it. We can start picking up garbage bi-weekly and on the alternating week, we can pick up organics and recycling. People that aren't diverting now will be forced to so their bins don't overflow.
I also think that there could be a choice for people to pay for organics pickup, or to opt out and compost your own. Of course sporadic pickups would make for a very inefficient system that would be costly for those subscribing to it, but ideally everyone will just buy themselves a nice household composter.
